Guinness World Record Attempt 2017 For Longest Underwater Human Chain

 Diving Victoria Industry Association GWR

This Year the Diving Victoria Industry Association has organised a great event to bring together all victorian scuba divers to participate in the Guinness World Record For Longest Underwater Human Chain, Which will be run at Rye Pier this 2nd December.

The previous record consists of 308 divers, achieved by Cesena Blu (Italy), in Cesenatico, Forli-Cesena, Italy, on 14th May 2017.

We believe victorian scuba divers will CRUSH this record as we are aiming for 400 plus divers.

Guinness World Record Attempt 2017

Where do I park? A parking map will be released closer to the event. We do ask that you plan now to carpool with at least one other participant. Even if you park one car a kilometre away from the event and use one car to park near the event. A parking map will be sent out along with the actual schedule of events closer to the day of the event

Can I bring an underwater camera? Yes, we encourage it; however, please focus on your diving first and your photography second.

Where do I get changed? At your car, just like any other shore dive. There are two sets of toilet blocks close to the event.

What do I do with any rubbish? You take it home with you.

Can I dive in the group close to my friends? It is a massive logistical challenge getting this chain working, and although we are making every effort for you to be with your friends, the priority is making this attempt successful.

How long will the dive be for? Guinness requirements are for the dive to be 5 minutes. Still, we are going to aim for 20 minutes so we can ensure that we have the required evidence to satisfy the authorities.

Where and when do I check-in and collect my T-shirt? T-shirts will be collected on the day. This process is being designed and refined at the moment, and more information will be available closer to the date.

I have a non-diving friend attending, can they watch? Yes, however, we ask that they stay well clear of the attempt to minimise congestion. We do have requirements for volunteers, and if you have someone that wants to volunteer, please email their details to divingvictoriaassociation@gmail.com

What happens if the event does not go ahead on either of the two days listed (2nd December and 9th December)? You will receive a full refund.

Can I get a refund for any other reason? No, if you find out you cannot make the event, the $25 dollars is not refundable. You will still get your t-shirt if you want it, but you will have to arrange to collect it.

What happens if the weather is not suitable for the event to happen on 2nd December, but I cannot make it on the 9th December? There are no refunds. However, we kindly ask that you, please notify us so we can try to find a replacement for you, so the attempt is not compromised.

Will there be showers? There are limited showers in 2 toilet blocks nearby.

What should I bring to the event? You should bring your certification card and your completed Statement of Understanding. You should bring all of your entire dive gear. You should make sure it has been serviced and is serviceable. You should check it a few weeks before the event and possibly go for a dive to check it out. Make sure you have a full tank for the event. If you don’t have full gear, you can arrange to reserve hire gear from a reputable dive shop, with links to DIVA member shops found on http://www.divingvictoriaassociation.com.au We suggest you reserve this gear well in advance.

What certification level and experience do I need? As per the terms and conditions of booking, you must be at least Open water qualified. If you only have a Scuba Diver certification, you need to speak with your shop to see what is required for you to get your open water certification. You should have dived in Victoria at least once in the past 12 months.

Is there food at the event? There may be a BBQ run by the Lions club and a coffee van. We are going to Rye Hotel immediately after the event, and there will be food and drinks available there whilst we have a presentation, an auction and door prizes to a value of over $10,000

15/ Can I transfer my registration to another person? No.

I’m going to the event by myself. Is this an issue? No, you will meet many people at the event, and we will buddy you up with someone. If you are under the age of 18, you will need to bring your own buddy

Will there be medical services there? Yes, we will have event medical contractors on standby.

What if there is inclement weather? At the moment the event is jeopardised if the bay swell is over 2m, or the actual or forecasted wind is blowing at more than 10 knots from the North West to East in the northern part of the compass. In that event, organisers will use their discretion to decide whether the event goes ahead, or is delayed to the standby date of 9th December.
