Designed with the sport diver in mind, the new Tern is a powerful, simple, reliable, and the most compact dive computers we have ever brought to market. The Tern TX, which boasts transmitter-enabled diving, capable of connecting with up to four Swift gas pressure transmitters and includes a digital compass for underwater navigation.

With a watch-style form factor, the 1.3” diameter AMOLED screen provides crystal-clear visibility in various lighting conditions, making it easier than ever for divers to keep track of their crucial information. The vibrant, best-in-class high-resolution display offers Shearwater’s renowned user interface, providing divers with at-a-glance access to vital data, ensuring a safer and more enjoyable diving experience.

The stunning entry-level computer from Shearwater is smaller and lighter than their flagship Teric computer but still boasts many great features.

Designed and built in Canada, The Tern & Tern TX are depth rated to 120 metres and tested to engineering EN standards for dive computer compliance. Tern and Tern TX support Air, Nitrox, 3 Gas Nitrox, Gauge, and Freedive modes.

How the Features Help

• Reading the display: Colour presentation separates key data such as depth, dive time and gas information. Set brightness and the available screen layout before entering the water so the information you use is easy to find.
• Navigation: A digital compass brings heading information to the same instrument as your dive data. Calibrate it as instructed and practise the available bearing and reciprocal-heading functions on the surface.
• Cylinder-pressure information: With the specified compatible transmitter, the computer shows cylinder-pressure data at your wrist. Pair each transmitter to its correct gas and check the surface reading; gas-time estimates support your existing gas plan.
• Keeping your dive record: The supported connection transfers dive logs for post-dive review and, where supported, software updates. Optional external interfaces remain separate accessories unless included in this package.
• Freediving records: The applicable freediving mode records breath-hold dive and surface information separately from scuba operation. Configure prompts for your training plan and follow the manual’s restrictions on changing between modes.

Who is this computer for, and when is an upgrade useful?

Compared with the Tern, the Tern TX adds wireless air-integration support and a digital compass in the compact AMOLED watch format. These features benefit divers who want pressure and navigation information on the computer. A compatible transmitter is required for pressure monitoring and should be included when comparing the total price. Choose the larger Peregrine TX if you prefer more display area.

Setting up this computer

Compare the modes, gas capability, display and mounting arrangement with the diving you are trained to do. Check exactly what this listing includes, particularly transmitters, interfaces and charging accessories. Configure the computer using its own manual and confirm gases, alerts, units and battery status before diving. A depth rating describes an instrument limit and does not establish a suitable dive depth.

Gear Care and Maintenance

After every dive, rinse gently in fresh water to remove salt, chlorine and grit. Let residue soften by soaking only as the model’s manual permits, and operate buttons during rinsing only where instructed. Do not direct a high-pressure hose or compressed air at sensor openings, and never probe them with a tool.

Follow the care section of the exact Shearwater model manual for any cleaner; fresh water is the baseline cleaning method. Keep pressure-sensor openings clear by gentle rinsing, without scraping or high-pressure jets. Air dry fully in the shade before storage or charging.

Inspect the strap, attachment points, display and seals before use. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heaters and hot cars, with the screen protected from loose equipment. Follow the manufacturer’s battery-storage and servicing instructions.
