Open guideThickness alone does not determine a suit’s suitability. A close fit and well-fitting wrist, ankle and neck seals help limit water exchange. Compare flexibility and ease of dressing, and consider the conditions and length of your planned dives.
Thickness and sealing describe different features: 7mm refers to neoprene thickness, while semi-dry describes a wetsuit designed to reduce water exchange through improved seals. Effective wrist and ankle seals, combined with a close fit, minimise flushing and help retain warmed water. Neck sealing, seams and the main zip also affect performance. Some semi-dry wetsuits add a waterproof dry main zip, but this is not essential to every semi-dry design. The neoprene provides insulation; reducing flushing helps limit heat loss. Check each model’s specifications, as brands use the term differently. A semi-dry wetsuit can still admit water.

Check the model’s size chart and choose a close fit that allows comfortable breathing and movement. Ask our Hallam team for help choosing a suit for your activity and planned conditions.
Use the size chart for the exact model and take the measurements it requests. A wetsuit should fit closely while allowing comfortable breathing and the shoulder, hip and knee movement your activity needs. Ask our Hallam team if your measurements fall across sizes.
