Hollis ST System – Steel Backplate
Build a straightforward single-cylinder wing setup with the Hollis ST System. Its stainless steel backplate and Solo continuous-webbing harness provide a stable foundation, with the webbing adjusted around your exposure suit for a consistent fit.
Features and benefits
- Personal webbing fit. Continuous webbing lets you set shoulder and waist lengths and position the harness hardware around your body. Take time to establish the fit with your usual exposure suit and cylinder configuration.
- Configurable weight storage. Optional weight system. Add the listed weight system if it suits your ballast arrangement. Choosing compatible pockets lets you position ballast around the complete system and keep release controls accessible.
- Stainless steel backplate. The stainless steel plate provides a rigid foundation for the harness and wing. Its weight forms part of the complete equipment configuration and should be considered when setting your total ballast.
- Durable construction. The 1680D laminated Cordura outer adds a protective layer around the air cell, helping it withstand abrasion during regular handling and use.
- K-style inflation control. The inflator provides separate controls for adding air and oral inflation or deflation. Its familiar hose-mounted layout keeps the controls together at the shoulder.
Fit and configuration
Select the appropriate size or harness adjustment for your body and exposure suit. Fit details: One-size continuous webbing; trim to fit. Choose enough lift for your complete cylinder and equipment configuration. Lift capacity, ballast-pocket capacity and the BCD’s dry weight describe different things; use the size-specific values in Technical Specs when comparing options.
Care, rinsing and storage
After every dive, rinse the BCD, harness, buckles and accessible fittings with fresh water, paying attention to salt and sand around the inflator, dump valves and weight-pocket releases. Follow the Hollis manual’s procedure for the fitted inflation system, including keeping the power inflator pressurised where specified.
Dive Gear Australia recommends Gear Aid Revivex BC Cleaner 10 oz for cleaning the outer surfaces and internal air cell. It helps remove salt, chlorine and residue while conditioning suitable rubber and plastic parts. Use the dilution on the cleaner’s label and follow the equipment manual.
Rinse the air cell internally through the opening specified in the manual, using fresh water and the recommended cleaner dilution when needed. Gently rotate the equipment to reach the inside surfaces, drain through the specified outlet, then rinse until the water runs clear. Drain thoroughly before drying.
Allow the BCD to dry in the shade, then store it slightly inflated in a cool, dry place without tight folds or heavy gear on top. Before diving, check that it holds air and that inflation controls, dump valves, straps and weight releases work correctly. Follow the manufacturer’s service schedule and have leaks, sticking controls or damage checked by an authorised technician.
