Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care combines CPR and first-aid learning with instructor-led skills and scenarios. The course is open to divers and non-divers, making it useful for dive buddies, family members and anyone who wants to practise a more organised response to an emergency.
DGA’s course brings independent online learning together with hands-on practice. You have time to become familiar with the ideas before working through the practical skills with an instructor.
Features and benefits
Primary Care for urgent situations
The Primary Care component introduces assessment and responses to life-threatening emergencies, including CPR. Instructor feedback helps you practise the skills and understand the role of a lay responder while professional help is being obtained.
Secondary Care for injury and illness
Work on injury and illness assessment, bandaging and splinting. These practical sessions let you become familiar with the equipment and the sequence taught in the course, rather than encountering it for the first time during a real event.
Scenarios that connect the separate skills
Scenario learning gives you an opportunity to consider what is happening, communicate and apply the skills you have practised. Your instructor can identify areas to revisit and help you work through questions in a supportive training setting.
Online preparation and a reference to revisit
Assigned eLearning, knowledge reviews and exams support the practical training. A digital Emergency Care at a Glance reference card is included, giving you a concise resource to revisit alongside your learning materials after the course.
Who can take part?
No scuba certification is required. EFR Primary and Secondary Care is available to divers and non-divers without a prior first-aid qualification. Discuss any access needs or questions about practical participation with the instructor before booking so the training arrangements can be considered.

Timing and preparation
Allow approximately four to six hours for the advertised course format and complete the assigned online learning before the practical session. Ask the team to confirm how the study and practical time fit your booking. Bring your learning-completion details, wear clothing suitable for practical exercises and tell the instructor about any participation requirements in advance.
Using this course towards further dive training
Current CPR and first-aid training can meet the relevant prerequisite for PADI Rescue Diver when it satisfies the required content and completion period. Ask your instructor to check your intended course and dates. Keep a record of your certification and plan refresher training to maintain familiarity with the skills.

Contact us within 30 days of delivery to request a refund, exchange or optional store credit on eligible unused goods within Australia. Refunds go to the original payment method. For change-of-mind returns and size exchanges, you pay return postage and replacement shipping. Original delivery charges are not refunded.
