Hollis SMS Katana 2 Dual Sidemount
Set up your sidemount system around the Katana 2’s Quick Fit harness. The adjustable H- or Y-style configuration helps you arrange the harness around your torso, while the dedicated sidemount layout keeps the cylinder setup separate from a conventional back-mounted BCD.
This is the dual-bladder Katana configuration, providing two separate air cells for a suitably configured sidemount system.
Features and benefits
- Quick Fit harness. The Quick Fit System lets you adjust the harness around your torso. Its H- and Y-style webbing options allow the shoulder arrangement to be matched to your sidemount configuration.
- Dual air cells. Two separate bladders provide independent buoyancy systems. Each requires its own correct supply, operation and checks; configure both according to your sidemount training and the manual.
- Integrated ballast storage. The harness carries ballast in its designated storage system, letting you position weight as part of the sidemount configuration. Adjust ballast placement together with wing position and cylinder rigging to establish trim.
- Top dump access. The top-positioned dump gives you a defined venting point. Route the pull so you can locate it with your usual equipment and gloves.
Fit and configuration
Select the appropriate size or harness adjustment for your body and exposure suit. Fit details: One-size adjustable harness. Choose enough lift for your complete cylinder and equipment configuration. Lift capacity, ballast-pocket capacity and the BCD’s dry weight describe different things; use the size-specific values in Technical Specs when comparing options.
Care, rinsing and storage
After every dive, rinse the BCD, harness, buckles and accessible fittings with fresh water, paying attention to salt and sand around the inflator, dump valves and weight-pocket releases. Follow the Hollis manual’s procedure for the fitted inflation system, including keeping the power inflator pressurised where specified.
Dive Gear Australia recommends Gear Aid Revivex BC Cleaner 10 oz for cleaning the outer surfaces and internal air cell. It helps remove salt, chlorine and residue while conditioning suitable rubber and plastic parts. Use the dilution on the cleaner’s label and follow the equipment manual.
Rinse the air cell internally through the opening specified in the manual, using fresh water and the recommended cleaner dilution when needed. Gently rotate the equipment to reach the inside surfaces, drain through the specified outlet, then rinse until the water runs clear. Drain thoroughly before drying.
Clean, rinse and drain each bladder separately, then check both inflation and deflation systems independently before the next dive.
Allow the BCD to dry in the shade, then store it slightly inflated in a cool, dry place without tight folds or heavy gear on top. Before diving, check that it holds air and that inflation controls, dump valves, straps and weight releases work correctly. Follow the manufacturer’s service schedule and have leaks, sticking controls or damage checked by an authorised technician.
