Course preparation and schedule
What You Need To Know
Complete your PADI eLearning before the course begins. After booking, visit the Hallam store at least two weeks before your course date for wetsuit and scuba equipment fitting.
Meet at the Hallam store at 8 am for orientation and equipment setup. We then head to the pool for the water-skills assessment and confined-water training.
After the pool session, return to DGA for equipment washing and cylinder preparation. The usual finish is around 3–4 pm. Your instructor will confirm the next meeting point and time according to conditions.
Meet at the chosen shore site, usually Rye Pier around 8–9 am, subject to weather and conditions. Practise your pool skills and complete the scheduled open-water dives.
The day includes equipment washing, debriefing and logging your dives back at DGA, usually finishing around 3–4 pm.
Collect your dive equipment from DGA one or two days before the final day. Meet at the instructor’s confirmed shore site, usually around 8–9 am, for the remaining dives.
After diving, return to DGA for equipment care, debriefing and logbooks. Certification is processed once all course requirements have been successfully completed.
- Minimum age 10 for Junior Open Water Diver training, with age-specific limits.
- Be comfortable in the water and complete the swim/snorkel and float assessments described above.
- Complete eLearning and the medical requirements before in-water training.
You need your personal mask, snorkel, gloves, boots and fins. Purchase or supply these items before the course; DGA can help with fitting. Wetsuit and scuba hardware are provided.
After certification, you can continue building experience and explore further training such as PADI Advanced Open Water Diver and relevant specialty courses. Each course has its own entry requirements and training limits.
