Cressi MG Balanced Octopus
The Cressi MG Balanced Octopus pairs a pneumatically balanced valve with an elliptical diaphragm for an alternate air source that supports comfortable breathing. Its internal heat exchanger supports cold-water use, and yellow detailing helps distinguish it from your primary regulator.
Features and benefits
- Pneumatically balanced valve. Balancing the valve reduces the effect of supply pressure on the force needed to open it, helping keep inhalation response consistent.
- Elliptical diaphragm. The broad diaphragm provides a larger working surface without making the second stage unnecessarily tall. Together with the low-friction lever, it helps the valve respond to inhalation.
- Internal heat exchanger. Heat transfer around the valve helps counter the cooling caused by expanding gas, supporting operation in cold water. Correct cold-water equipment selection and procedures still matter.
- Dive/pre-dive control. The Venturi lever changes how the air stream assists inhalation. Use the pre-dive position during surface handling and while an alternate second stage is stowed, then the dive position when breathing from it, following the manual.
- Flexible hose. The supplied flexible hose helps route the alternate second stage to an accessible position without unnecessary pull at the mouth.
Setup and compatibility
Use this octopus with a compatible first stage in a manufacturer-approved regulator combination. Have the complete assembly checked and the hose routed for the alternate-air method you have been trained to use.
Cold-water use requires the correct first stage, second stages and accessories, together with appropriate training and operating procedures. Follow the limits in the regulator manual.
Care, rinsing and storage
Clean this component as part of a complete, correctly assembled regulator system. After each dive, connect the assembled regulator to a scuba cylinder and open the valve to pressurise the system. Keep it pressurised while fully submerging the first stage, second stages and connected hoses in fresh water. This allows thorough cleaning of the exposed components and hoses while helping prevent water entering the internal air passages, where it can cause corrosion and damage. Keep the cylinder secure throughout cleaning.
For routine cleaning, Dive Gear Australia recommends Cressi Neoclean Wetsuit Wash Neoprene Cleaner 500 mL or Revivex Wetsuit Shampoo 10 oz to help remove salt, chlorine and everyday residue. Dilute according to the cleaner’s label, then rinse thoroughly with fresh water.
Keep the regulator pressurised throughout washing and rinsing. Lift it out of the water and dry the first stage and cylinder connection before closing the cylinder valve, releasing the pressure and disconnecting. Fit the clean, dry dust cap, then allow the regulator to dry in the shade. Store it with the hoses loosely curved, without sharp bends or tension.
Before each dive, inspect the mouthpiece, hoses and connections for wear or damage. Have your regulator serviced by an authorised Cressi technician at the interval specified in its manual, or sooner if it leaks, is damaged or its breathing performance changes. Leave internal adjustments and repairs to a qualified technician.
