Apeks EXOTEC BCD – Grey and Orange
The Exotec brings movement and adjustment together in a supportive BCD. Its BioReact waist pivots with your body, while the Wrapture harness and adjustable backplate let you position the system around your torso and exposure suit.
Features and benefits
- BioReact movement. The articulated waist can pivot as you bend and turn, helping the BCD follow your body while the harness continues to support the cylinder.
- Support close to the body. The Wrapture harness positions the cylinder close to your back and distributes its load through the harness, helping reduce the feeling of the cylinder pulling away from you.
- Accessible weight handling. The SureLock II pockets use a mechanical locking connection to secure removable ballast. Check that each pocket is fully engaged after loading and keep the release handles unobstructed.
- Useful storage. Two pockets fold flat when empty and open out for small accessories.
- Water-shedding outer. The smooth Armoguard slick-skin outer resists abrasion, rinses clean easily and dries quickly. This makes it practical for repeated dives and regular cleaning.
Fit and configuration
Unisex fit. Select the appropriate harness or BCD size and adjust it with your usual exposure suit. Fit details: Three-position height-adjustable backplate; adjustable waist and shoulders. An optional crotch strap is available separately. Choose enough lift for your complete cylinder and equipment configuration. Lift capacity, ballast-pocket capacity and the BCD’s dry weight describe different things; use the size-specific values in Technical Specs when comparing options.
Care, rinsing and storage
After every dive, rinse the BCD, harness, buckles and accessible fittings with fresh water, paying attention to salt and sand around the inflator, dump valves and weight-pocket releases. Follow the Apeks manual’s procedure for the fitted inflation system, including keeping the power inflator pressurised where specified.
Dive Gear Australia recommends Gear Aid Revivex BC Cleaner 10 oz for cleaning the outer surfaces and internal air cell. It helps remove salt, chlorine and residue while conditioning suitable rubber and plastic parts. Use the dilution on the cleaner’s label and follow the equipment manual.
Rinse the air cell internally through the opening specified in the manual, using fresh water and the recommended cleaner dilution when needed. Gently rotate the equipment to reach the inside surfaces, drain through the specified outlet, then rinse until the water runs clear. Drain thoroughly before drying.
Allow the BCD to dry in the shade, then store it slightly inflated in a cool, dry place without tight folds or heavy gear on top. Before diving, check that it holds air and that inflation controls, dump valves, straps and weight releases work correctly. Follow the manufacturer’s service schedule and have leaks, sticking controls or damage checked by an authorised technician.
