How UV420 lens protection works

UV420 is a light-filtering treatment on the lens. It reduces the ultraviolet light passing through the glass and targets the short-wavelength violet end of visible light, around 400–420 nanometres. The number 420 refers to a wavelength, rather than a percentage of protection.

For divers and snorkellers, the benefit is reduced exposure to UV through the mask lenses while enjoying the view. This is particularly useful during surface swimming, where sunlight reflected from water adds to exposure. Protecting your eyes from UV is a sensible part of looking after them; use UV-blocking sunglasses on the boat or shore when your mask is off.

Why anti-reflective CrystalView glass helps underwater

The anti-reflective coating reduces light bouncing off the inner and outer lens surfaces. Together with CrystalView optical glass, this helps provide a clearer view with fewer distracting lens reflections when watching marine life, checking hand signals or reading instruments. UV filtering, reflection control and anti-fogging each have a different job.

How the anti-fog film works

The TA0806 Freedom Film is shaped for the Paragon S M1007S single lens. Mask fog forms when warm, moist air inside the mask meets the cooler lens and condenses into tiny droplets that scatter light. Freedom Film has a hydrophilic, or water-attracting, surface that encourages moisture to spread into a thin layer instead of forming those misty droplets. This helps keep your view clearer during the dive.

Fit the film to a clean inner lens surface following the supplied instructions, and rinse the mask with fresh water after use. Oils, dirt and damage can reduce its effectiveness, so handle it carefully and avoid toothpaste, abrasive scrubbing or flame treatment on the film or coated lenses.

Strap comfort and adjustment

The contoured 3D silicone strap follows the curve of the back of your head. Its split shape spreads contact over a wider area, helping the mask stay comfortably in position with light strap tension.

Fit guidance

Try the mask to check its seal and nose-pocket comfort. For a Paragon with interchangeable corrective lenses, choose the twin-lens M2001S model.

Care and storage

Rinse your mask with fresh water after each dive or snorkel, flushing salt and sand from the buckles before adjusting them. Let it dry in the shade, then store it in a protective case away from heat, direct sunlight and coloured rubber gear that can stain the silicone.

Treat the coated glass gently: avoid toothpaste, abrasive cleaners, scrubbing and flame treatment. Follow the supplied instructions for any fitted Freedom Film. Check the skirt, strap and buckles for damage before use.
